Say goodbye to: unwanted hair, shaving, waxing, plucking
Your long-term solution to unwanted facial and body hair.
What is it? Reduce unwanted facial and/or body hair with a safe and effective laser hair reduction treatment. Primarily used for the face, legs, arms, and bikini area, this treatment can help your skin look smoother and more flawless without the hassle of a daily hair removal regimen.
As with all beauty procedures, results can vary, but most laser hair reduction patients see a permanent hair reduction of anywhere between 50-90%. This process typically takes between 20 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area treated.
Say goodbye to redness, age spots, sun spots, wrinkles, and broken capillaries with Laser Treatments at HerMD.

How does it work?
During the treatment, our laser emits a highly concentrated laser pulse (seen as bright flashes of light) targeting the melanin in the hair follicles. The pigment absorbs the energy or heat from the light emitted, destroying the hair at the root and restricting future hair growth.
Why we recommend it
This service is a great option for patients who want a long-term solution to unwanted facial and body hair. Instead of constantly shaving, waxing, or plucking at home, patients can reduce or remove unwanted hairs through a few safe, effective sessions.

Pre-Treatment / Post Treatment
Pre-treatment
We recommend our patients avoid sun exposure 4 weeks prior to treatment and avoid spray tans and self-tanners 2 weeks prior to treatment.
Post Treatment
Keep the treated area clean and dry for the first 24 hours after treatment to reduce irritation. Use gentle soaps and avoid moisturizers.
Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen (spf 30+) to protect skin for the duration of treatment for best results.
Laser hair reduction is generally well tolerated with minimal discomfort. Discomfort is just during the treatment itself and feels like a little hot snap on the skin. After the treatment, a light sunburn sensation is not abnormal and should dissipate quickly.
Laser hair reduction doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal, however, when hair regrows in the treated areas it’s typically finer and lighter in color. After each treatment, the hair in the treated area will grow back thinner and more fine than it was initially. It will continue to reduce in amount with each subsequent treatment. Laser hair reduction can drastically reduce hair growth in almost all areas, including your legs, arms, underarms, stomach, back, and neck, to name a few. We recommend starting with a package of 6 treatments spaced out every 4-6 weeks for best results.
Results can vary based on many factors (ie. treatment area, color, and texture of hair, consistency of treatments, compliance with sun avoidance/protection, hormonal fluctuations, etc). Most patients have long-lasting results but may need to receive a maintenance treatment yearly to sustain results.
Most patients experience a light sunburn sensation after the treatment that dissipates quickly. Small bumps called follicular edema (swelling around the hair follicle) may be present as well and should disappear in less than 24 hours. Cooling packs and/or aloe can be used if needed for comfort. Results do not appear immediately as we are targeting the root of the hair follicle beneath the surface of the skin. You will notice the hair fall out or shed out a few days to a week after treatment. Then you will have a period of little to no hair. A new growth cycle will occur with lighter finer hair growing in and you will return for your next treatment. This cycle will continue with each subsequent treatment until little to no hair remains in the treatment area!
You may shave between your laser hair reduction visits. Please avoid any waxing or plucking during your treatment series, as the laser needs to see the melanin at the root of the hair follicle to be effective.
Laser hair reduction works by targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, therefore it works best on dark, coarse hair. It does also work on areas with lighter, thinner hair as most people have a combination of colors and textures in any given area. Unfortunately, red, white, grey, and very light blonde hairs have little to no melanin or pigment and do not tend to respond as well. It is best to have a consultation to allow our medical providers to assess the treatment area.
