Early cancer detection tests provide vital information to help people with a strong personal or family history of cancer understand their own risk of developing the disease.
With this information, they can take steps to potentially prevent cancer, delay the onset of the disease or catch it at an earlier stage when outcomes and survival rates are better.

Why Early Detection?
Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) Syndrome causes about 10% of breast and ovarian cancer HBOC substantially increases your risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer, often before the age of 50, and can be transmitted genetically.
HBOC begins with a mutation in either of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes (BRCA stands for BReast CAncer) or a handful of less penetrant genes gives a woman an increased lifetime risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. Not all families with multiple cases of breast and ovarian cancer have mutations in these genes.
Finding cancer early is important to improve treatment outcomes and survival.
MyRisk Genetic Testing
The MyRisk hereditary cancer test provides vital information to help people with a strong personal or family history of cancer understand their own risk of developing the disease. With this information, they can take steps to potentially prevent cancer, delay the onset of the disease or catch it at an earlier stage when outcomes and survival rates are better. It can help determine your cancer risk for 8 hereditary cancers including: endometrial, breast, ovarian, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, melanoma, and prostate.
A simple genetic test and complete analysis of the results is available at HerMD and it can let you know your risk for hereditary cancers by identifying a gene mutation. Knowing your risk can help you be ready against hereditary cancer—so you and your practitioner can take steps to reduce your risk.
Galleri Testing
The Galleri® multi-cancer early detection test detects a cancer signal across more than 50 types of cancer, many of which are not commonly screened for today. With a simple blood draw, the Galleri test provides early detection insights that help you be proactive about your health. The Galleri test can be included in a routine visit with your HerMD provider.
The Galleri test is recommended for adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. It is intended to be used in addition to and not replace other cancer screening tests your healthcare provider recommends.
*The Galleri test does not detect all cancers nor does it measure your genetic risk of developing cancer in the future. It should be used in addition to routine screening tests your healthcare provider recommends. Your provider will discuss appropriate follow-up testing to confirm if cancer is present.

Testing for a hereditary cancer risk helps you and your provider understand your risk so you can make the best choices for preventive care. Knowing your family history is an important first step, but testing can give you a more accurate picture of your risk.
While testing is the most accurate way to determine the risk of hereditary cancer, only people who have cancer in their family or a personal history of the disease need to be tested. If you have had cancer and/or cancer runs in your family, let your healthcare professional know. To help you assess whether you may benefit from hereditary cancer genetic testing, take the Myriad Hereditary Cancer assessment. Answering a few questions can help you get the information you need to discuss your risk of cancer with your healthcare professional and ask for further evaluation.
No. Genetic testing does not tell you if you currently have cancer. Your test results will tell you about your inherited risk of developing cancer in the future.
No. A positive test result simply tells you that you have an increased risk of cancer.
This means that there is a suspicion of cancer but not a diagnosis of cancer. The Galleri test can point to where in the body the cancer is coming from to help your healthcare provider guide next steps. Your provider will discuss appropriate follow-up testing to confirm if cancer is present.
Please talk with your HerMD provider about which test may be best for you. We can administer the test right in our centers.
Your provider will let you know your test results as soon as they are available, which may be as soon as two weeks from the date your test is performed.
Most insurance carriers coverMyRisk genetic testing services for hereditary cancer. Although each case is unique, the average patient pays nothing out of pocket. Myriad assists in obtaining the best possible reimbursement for each of the genetic tests we offer with the goal of making sure you receive the appropriate coverage from your insurance plan.
Galleri is not covered by insurance. The cost for Galleri testing is $949. You may be able to use pre-tax dollars in your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to pay for the Galleri test. Check with your FSA/HSA account administrator or insurance company to determine eligibility.
