Brain health is a state in which every individual can realize their own abilities and optimize their cognitive, emotional, psychological, and behavioral functioning to cope with life situations.

Brain health is important throughout all stages of a woman’s life. During menopause, many women will report mild cognitive decline (or brain fog), making brain health and optimization especially important during this time.
What are the symptoms?
Women who experience mild cognitive decline during menopause report the following symptoms:
- Memory loss
- Reduced processing speed
- Impaired executive function
- Brain fog
There are many effective and safe ways to optimize your brain health and functioning. These include:
- Prescription medication
- Physical exercise
- Getting enough sleep
- Eating well
- Reduce stress
- Mental activity (reading, crossword puzzles, puzzles, etc.)
What to expect on your visit
During your visit, you can expect your care team to listen to and address all of your concerns in a safe and trusted space. A consultation for optimizing your brain health may include:
- A history and physical examination
The changing levels of hormones that happen during menopause can impact brain health. Many women will report mild cognitive decline during menopause.
To improve cognitive skills and function, make sure you are getting enough sleep and eating right. Foods like fatty fishes, green, leafy vegetables, berries, and nuts can support optimal brain health. Activities such as knitting, crocheting, and crossword puzzles can also help.

I highly, highly recommend this practice – especially for people who are neurodivergent and/or who have anxieties around receiving medical care. All staff members were pleasant to interact with; I let the medical assistant know that I’m typically a hard stick, but bless her, she got it in one try.
