Testosterone plays an important role in women’s health — especially during menopause.

As women age, their testosterone levels gradually decline, and by menopause, they can be about 50% lower than levels in early adulthood. This decline can lead to symptoms such as diminished sexual desire, decreased muscle strength, mood changes, and difficulties with concentration or memory.

Low-dose testosterone therapy for women is becoming increasingly recognized as a treatment option to help manage symptoms related to declining testosterone levels. Although no testosterone therapies are currently FDA-approved specifically for women in the United States, growing clinical evidence supports its use under the careful guidance and monitoring of a healthcare provider. However, long-term safety data are still limited, and ongoing research is needed to understand better the full risk–benefit profile of testosterone use in women.
