You are not alone on your menopause journey. Roz Kaur, Salina Williams, and Christina Langdon share their pearls of wisdom on redefining yourself, finding community, and advocating for your healthcare during this next phase of life.
What is menopause?
Menopause is the start of the non-reproductive years and is defined by the absence of a menstrual cycle or any bleeding for 12 consecutive months. If you don’t bleed for 11 months, then have a period, and you start the countdown again. The average age of menopause is 52.
So then, what is perimenopause?
Perimenopause occurs in the years before menopause – when your body begins to make the transition to menopause. People can start perimenopause at different ages. You may start to notice menstrual cycle irregularity and other menopause-like symptoms, such as hot flashes, issues with sleep, and vaginal dryness.
